Ports Continue to Pour It On

The Stockton Ports opened an important 3 game series with the Visalia Rawhide on Friday night with a 14-6 rout.  Fresh off their 3 game sweep of the Lake Elsinore Storm the Ports continued to swing hot bats collecting 14 hits.  Over the past 4 games the Ports have driven in 41 runs on 62 hits.  In their previous series, the Ports out scored the Storm by a total of 27 to 11 while knocking 48 hits.

Tonight’s charge was led by first baseman Tony Thompson who was 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 9 RBIs including a grand slam in the 7th inning. The other offensive star tonight was Bobby Crocker who went 2 for 5 with a double and 2 RBIs raising his season average to .280.  Josh Bowman (5-6, 6.29) pitched a solid 6 innings only giving up 4 runs on 6 hits collecting his first win in his past 3 starts.

This series against the Rawhide has tremendous playoff implications during the stretch drive.  A sweep of the Rawhide would put the Ports in a tie with the Rawhide in the overall record.  Every win puts the Ports one step closer to the playoffs.  We shall see if the Ports can keep pouring it on during the last 2+ weeks of the season.
