After crushing the ball on August 16, 2013 against the Visalia Rawhide, the Stockton Ports first baseman, Tony Thompson, was named the California League Player of the Week for the week ending August 18th. This is the second week in a row that a Stockton Ports player has earned a Cal League weekly honor. Last week pitcher Tanner Peters won the pitcher of the week honors after his near perfect performance against the Modesto Nuts.
During the week of August 12 -18, 2013 Tony batted .429, hits 3 home runs and drive in 15 RBIs. His best performance of the week came on August 16th when Tony went 4-5 with 2 home runs and a career high 9 RBIs. On the season Tony is batting .262 with 17 home runs. His 87 RBIs lead the team and is 2nd most in the Cal League.
Tony was drafted out of the University of Kansas in the 6th round of the 2010 draft by the Oakland Athletics. This is Tony’s second year with the Stockton Ports. He joins Max Muncy as the only other Port to be named Player of the Week in the 2013 season. Max was named the California League Player of the Week for the week of June 3-9, 2013.
