Addison Russell struggles in RiverCats debut

Making the leap from A ball to AA ball is not easy.  Making the jump from A ball to AAA ball is very difficult.  Addison Russell proved that on Saturday night in his Sacramento RiverCats debut against the Tacoma Rainiers.  Addison went 0 for 3 striking out in his first 2 at bats and popping out to short in his last.

In all fairness to Addison, the RiverCats faced Blake Beavan who made 26 starts for the Seattle Mariners last year and pitched in 12 games in the majors this year.  Addison was not the only RiverCat to struggle at the plate.  The offense could only get 4 hits and 3 of them were by Oakland Athletics #2 prospect Michael Choice.  Michael hit 2 doubles and a single in 4 trips.

Addison is a great hitter and will continue to develop as he advances through the minors.  These next couple of games will be just a taste of what is ahead for Addison.
