For Throwback Thursday I wanted to display my collection of Oakland Athletics pins from the late-1980’s and early-1990s. The first photo is the set that was distributed in 1988 by Unocal 76. The second pins celebrates the opening day of the Oakland Coliseum, April 17, 1968. The third pin displays the 3 World Series Championships from 1972, 1973 and 1974. The fourth and final pin depicts the 1987 All-Star Game held at the Oakland Coliseum.
The next photo features the pin set put out by Unocal 76 in 1989. The first pin features the elephant once again with 1989 inscribed on the baseball. The second pin features the famous forearm bash made popular by Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire, also know as the Bash Brothers. This next photo is incomplete. This photo is of the 1990 Athletics pin set distributed by Unocal 76. There are 5 pins in this set however I only have 4 of them. The first celebrates the 1989 World Series Champions Oakland Athletics who completed a 4 game sweep over the San Francisco Giants. The second pin displays the 4 Oakland Athletics who have won the MVP award (through 1990). The third pin shows the 1973 World Series victory over the New York Mets. The fourth pin (not pictured) features the No Hitters thrown by Oakland Athletics pitchers. The fifth depicts the 1989 World Series victory.
The next picture are 2 miscellaneous pins from the 1989 and 1990 playoffs. This first celebrates the 1989 World Series victory. The second depicts the 1990 AL West Division Champs.
In this final picture are 3 various Oakland Athletics pins I have in my collection. The first is the A’s hat. The second is a giveaway from 1986 by the California Egg Council. The last is from the late-1990s and is a pin from the Frequent A’s Fan program they had.
