Athletics rout Twins increase lead to 7.5 games

With only 8 games left to play the Oakland Athletics extended their AL West Division lead to 7.5 games on Friday night.  The Athletics trounced the Minnesota Twins 11-0.  Bartolo Colon picked up his 17th win of the season lowering his ERA to 2.64.  He struck out 8 in 6 innings.  The offense was led Derek Norris and Josh Donaldson.  Derek was 2 for 3 on the evening with a double and 3 runs scored.  Josh slapped his 24th home run of the season on a line drive to center field in the 6 inning.  He was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs increasing his average to .306.

The wheels fell off the wagon for the Twins as they committed 4 errors allowing 6 unearned runs to score.

The Kansas City Royals helped the Athletics out by defeating the Texas Rangers 2-1 in Kansas City.  The Texas loss coupled with the Athletics victory dropped the Magic Number to just 2 with 8 games left to play.
