Profile
Addison Russell is currently the Oakland Athletics Top Prospect according to MLB.com.  Addison was the Athletics #1 Draft Pick, 11th overall, in the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Pace High School (FL).  Heading into the 2013 season Addison was ranked as the Athletics Top Prospect.  2013 was his first full season of professional ball.

After being drafted in 2012 Addison shot up through 3 levels of professional ball.  He played 26 games for the AZL Athletics and batted .415 with 6 home runs and 29 RBIs.  This was followed by 13 games with the Vermont Lake Monsters where he was 18 for 53 (.340 avg) with a home run and 7 RBIs.  Addison’s final stop in the 2012 campaign was with the Burlington Bees.  While there he batted .310 and drove in 9 more runs.

In his first full season Addison Russell did not disappoint.  He spent all, but 3 games with the Stockton Ports (High-A affiliate).  With the Ports he batted .275 with 118 hits, 17 home runs and 60 RBIs.  He struggled in the 1st half of the season, hitting .213 after the first 54 games.  Addison, however, would find his stroke and he finished the campaign strong.  This strong finish prompted the Athletics to promote Addison to the Sacramento RiverCats (AAA) to help them in the stretch drive to reach the playoffs.  Unfortunately Addison struggled only getting 1 hit in 13 at bats, proving that he is not ready for AAA ball.

Addison’s glove is a work in progress.  On the season Addison committed 14 errors, the 4th highest total for the Ports.  However, he would often make plays that you wouldn’t expect a 19 year old to make.  There is a lot of upside to his fielding and it will only get better as he rises through the ranks.

Addison is a great developing player who is a lot of fun to watch.  I had the pleasure to watch him all season in Stockton.  There is a lot of room for improvement, but considering he is only 1 year removed from high school he has definitely earned the Top Prospect ranking.
