D’Arby Myers streak ends at 33 games

For the first time in over a month D’Arby Myers did not hit safely in a game.  D’Arby went 0 for 4 as the Frisco RoughRiders held the Midland RockHounds offense in check winning 7 to 1.  Even though he popped out to shortstop in his last at bat D’Arby received a standing ovation from the crowd of 5,496 for putting together the longest hitting streak in all of professional baseball this season.

Tonight was a special night for the RockHounds as the were playing their final Saturday home game of the season.  The team was auctioning off the throwback jerseys they wore during the game.  It is reported that the jersey worn by D’Arby Myers tonight sold at auction for $2,100!

Congratulations to D’Arby Myers from the ElephantFarm for putting together a wonderful string of hits!  Keep them coning!

No walkoff, but RockHounds win as Myers hits in 33rd straight game

The Midland RockHounds did not need to walkoff to earn the victory tonight.  Instead the RockHounds bats came alive pounding out 13 hits en route to a 7 to 1 victory over the San Antonio Missions.  Max Muncy led the way going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs coming up a home run shy of a cycle.  Murphy Smith earned his first win in his last 7 starts raising his record to 9-8 to go along side a 3.48 ERA.  Ryan Dull came on in the 8th inning pitching 2 scoreless frame to wrap up the victory.

D’Arby Myers continues to capture the headlines as he collected 2 hits tonight, including a double, in 5 at bats extending his hitting streak to 33 games.  Once again D’Arby did not waste any time at the plate.  In the bottom of the first he drove a 3-2 pitch to center field for a double.  He would score 2 batters later on a sac fly by Tyler Ladendorf.  D’Arby’s performance raised his average to .290.

The Midland RockHounds start the final series of the season tomorrow night as the Frisco RoughRiders come to town for a 3 game set.  Zach Neal (8-11, 4.25 ERA) will toe the rubber for the RockHounds and will be opposed by Phil Klein (5-1, 2.68 ERA).  Game time is 7:00 pm.

D’Arby Myers hitting streak reaches 29

On Monday night D’Arby Myers returned to action as the RockHounds battled the Frisco RoughRiders.  In the top of the 5th D’Arby drove the 1st pitch he saw from Richard Bleier through the infield out to left field for a single, extending his hitting streak to 29 games.  His hit advanced Diomedes Lopez and Conner Crumbliss 90 feet.  Both runners would eventually score in the inning.  In the end, the RockHounds would drop the game by a score of 5 to 3.

D’Arby ended the evening 1 for 4 keeping his average at .289 on the season.  During his hitting streak D’Arby is 44 for 120 batting .367.  D’Arby was held out of the previous 3 games due to an ankle injury.  He will be looking to extend the streak to 30 games tonight as the RockHounds take on the San Antonio Missions at home to begin the last homestand of the 2013 season.
